A Day at the FarmSpring 2012 |
|
By the end of April 2012, highs in Nashville, GA, and Tallahassee, FL, were already in the 90s! A pretty and sunny day at the farm beckoned me to get out the camera and capture some images. A favorite catalpa tree, planted by Mrs. Outlaw (Christine) in the back yard of the old farmhouse, was removed a few years ago due to disease. Still, some volunteers have lingered on near the fence (built by Bill and me in 1981) near the back porch of the cabin. I so love the pods for decorating, but the trees had been more useful in earlier days for fishing. The catalpa in bloom is beautiful and has a nice light fragrance. Shown here, I admire a cluster of blooms. |

The fence on the opposite side of the cabin still sports red running roses (above, left) planted ever-so-many years ago, also by Mrs. Outlaw. I’ve loved seeing them for years and this year is no exception. They thrive on neglect—my kind of plant! A close-up image of a rose shows a swamp area in the background. Riding down to the pond with Bill, we checked out the new pond renovation (completed early 2011) and the view of the cabin from the northwest side of the pond (above, right). |

Near the pond, Bill spotted an otter burrow (above, left) and otter tracks (above, right). Bill is not an otter fan, so this is not a welcome sight. |

Bill worked on some wood projects he’s planned for a long time. Photos were made and these will be featured in another story when the projects are completed. These will be great additions at the farm and in Tallahassee. Rounding out our visit, Bill worked on equipment (a never-ending job, it seems) and watered plants. I made banana bread, cooked some meals, and dreamed of projects to come. Shown here I relax in the shade of a seedling pecan near the cabin. |
