Elizabeth's Holiday Visit
Tallahassee and Nashville--2010/2011

Elizabeth and John celebrated Christmas in Yorktown, Virginia, after having joined us at Will's home a week before for our family celebration. December 28th, Elizabeth departed Newport News (near Yorktown) by air and John drove home to Wilmington, North Carolina, with the dogs. Elizabeth experienced long lines, delays, and cancelled flights, but arrived in Tallahassee, albeit 5 hours later than planned.

Our dogs, Priss and Buttley, were beside themselves with joy upon seeing Elizabeth. Being past 1:00 a.m., we all needed sleep but had a short visit, and then headed off to bed.

The next day, after enjoying some time together with the dogs, Elizabeth and I made a trip to Havana, Florida, 12 miles away. We always enjoy browsing the antique and home furnishing stores in Havana. We chose paninis and salad for lunch and later had homemade coconut cake and coffee at the Tomato Cafe. Both cafes and favoite shops are located on the street (above, left). The cottage house is on the corner on the oposite side of the street (above, right).

Elizabeth made plans in advance to meet high-school friend Betsy Miller at Kool Beanz Cafe, a favorite restaurant Elizabeth frequented when she lived in Tallahassee. Knowing how much her dad and I like dessert, she brought home half her chocolate cake for us. Now that was some cake! Scrumptious!

Thursday, we drove to Nashville, Georgia, to spend a little time at the cabin. Later that day, we visited Horsecreek Winery at Perry Vineyards where we enjoyed some wine and chatting with Andrea Perry. We especially like the new White Merlot.

That evening we dined on vegetarian lasagna and pumpkin bread pudding with caramel sauce, and later we watched a movie, The Score.

Friday morning we drove downtown with the Landmark (above, left) as our primary destination. Elizabeth and I browsed the lovely antique and gift shop and I purchased a print of the old Nashville Hotel (above, right), which no longer exists. The shop owner, Patsy Hickox, is an artist and has prints made from her original art of landmarks of Berrien County, Georgia. (The print shown was custom framed at a later date.)

After our shopping trip, we had lunch at the cabin and then returned to Tallahassee.

New Year's Day, we relaxed at home and Elizabeth prepared for her return trip to Wilmington, NC. We were all happy that the flights went smoothly and, more-or-less, on time.
