Elizabeth's Room--2010

To document Elizabeth's room decor, Bill made these photos before she visited us in Tallahassee in late December, 2010. This room was decorated 6-8 years ago.

Wallpaper was my choice as an accent wall for this project. It is a busy garden pattern with lattice, leaves, and birds.
A subtle background pattern inspired the decorative paint and stenciling on the other three walls.

The headboard is a piece of plywood Bill cut out for me about 20 years ago. I upholstered it originally, but it now has a slipcover for this decor. The pillows were made over a period of time using the pricey green fabric sparingly.

The large art print by Fabrice DeVilleneuve is one of my favorites and I find the French shop shown charming and it reminds me of walking through Paris with Elizabeth in late 1999. Sacre Coeur in Montmartre and the Latin Quarter were our favorite areas.

In the early 2000s, I tried my hand at making French memo boards. This one is my third and features French-Impressionist-art postcards, and a photo/print from original art of a German village near Pfäffingen, where our family lived in 1985.

The display on the chest of drawers includes an angel candle holder, a gift from Elizabeth's former German-language tutor, vintage Japanese ceramics, and a Vietri plate, a gift to me from Elizabeth.

The round table features a crocheted topper most likely made by Bill's mother or grandmother. Elizabeth's childhood Big Bear has a special place.

Vintage bird plates adorn the space between the closets. I bought them as a set of four for $35 and they are "Woodland Melody" by George Briard.

Elizabeth and I love to shop for furniture and accessories. Having found a store with large discounts, I bought the end table, desk, and stool (all originally white) and later painted and antiqued them and reupholstered the stool seat.

On the desk are two lighted candles Will and Elizabeth bought in Gräfelfing, Germany (near Munich) in 1984.
