John's Graduation from SCAD (May 2010) Elizabeth and John reserved a rental house on Tybee Island, near Savannah, to accomodate John's family and us. John's parents, grandmother, and aunt and uncle drove down from Virginia. We had not seen them recently, so this house was ideal for hanging out together yet gave us plenty of privacy.

We arrived in late afternoon and made a cursory tour of the house, selected our rooms and put away our things. The above image is the entrance to the house and those to the right show details of the living space. The rooms were beautifully decorated, reminding one of Pottery Barn cottage-style rooms. |

The first evening we enjoyed appetizers and wine and later dined on lasagna. We also opened two bottles of Bill's muscadine wine, chatted and stayed up much too late. On graduation day, we had a relaxed morning followed by a trek to a nearby lunch spot. John had a morning graduation rehearsal to attend and left early for Savannah but he returned for lunch. |

Later in the day, we dressed for graduation and made some photos.

When we drove to the four o'clock ceremony (which followed an earlier SCAD graduation ceremony), we thought we'd have a long walk. Fortunately, we were able to find a spot a block or less from the entrance. We noted a cute tag that attracted our attention. (GiGi is John's name for his grandmother.)
It was a well coordinated and impressive ceremony and we had good seats.
Outside, after the ceremony, we found a lovely area for photos. The one family request was to get a tree with Spanish moss in the pictures. In fact, other families were in line for our spot after we used it.
That night, back on Tybee Island, we walked to a beach-front restaurant for dinner and later opened gifts and had a cake. The cake celebrated Elizabeth's birthday, as well as John's graduation.
On Sunday, we relaxed, some of us walked around Tybee, and later we drove to Savannah to dine at The Olde Pink House. We had planned to have time before our meal to browse around the city, but a huge traffic delay getting off Tybee prevented this. (Higher resolution images are available.)
