Sutton Family Reunion, September 3, 2011 For decades, a Sutton Family Reunion was hosted by Wayne and Betty Ruth Sutton at their home on the Jerry S. "Buck" Sutton New Homeplace in the Ninth District, Berrien County Georgia. Primarily, the reunion attracted decendents and relations of Buck (1860-1918) and Susan (also Susannah, 1867-1909) Sutton, whose children were Joseph (b. 1886 d. 1886-1888), Fannie Belle (1888-1932, m. Nick Baker, no children), Della (also Ardella, 1891-1932, m. Lucious G. Outlaw), Jerry M. (1893-1935, m. Elsie Baldree), Marcus Newton (1895-1940, m. Ressie Lee Ivey)], Mary Ellen (1898-1961, m. Riley Hooper), George Tilden (1903-1940, m. Versacola Griner), and Noah Leon (1906-1936, m. Gertie Luke). All of Buck and Susan's children were born while he owned (1885-1912) the Jerry S. "Buck" Sutton Old Homeplace (presently part of the W.H. Outlaw Farm). When I sit on my front porch, I imagine the children playing in the yard. This year, Talmadge L. and Mary Lou Sutton coordinated the reunion (~80 attendees), which was held at the Methodist Church, Nashville, GA. Many thanks to Wayne, Betty Ruth, Talmadge, and Mary Lou (& to the latter two for assisting in construction of this page)!!! As a means of remembering this event and sharing with those who could not attend, I have posted a number of candid images taken at the reunion. They are presented in no order and I realized on editing them that the representative photographs are unfortunately biased by those with whom I spoke and ate. |
